About

I work with fishermen’s associations in Alaska, Maine, the Gulf of Mexico, and Massachusetts to advance the development of a national network of cooperatives that anchor seafood quota in local communities. I work to understanding the barriers to accessing marine resources sustainably in each context and come up with solutions that benefit coastal communities environmentally, economically, and socially.

About

I worked with the Oak Foundation, the David and Lucile Packard Foundation, and others to scope the nature and extent of tenure rights in coastal areas, especially as they relate to human rights, economic development, food security, and conservation outcomes. I developed strategy for the new initiative on how tenure can be strengthened through participatory grant-making. When people have confidence that their rights will be upheld and maintained, they are more effective environmental stewards, leading to enhanced climate resilience, food security, and gender equity globally.

About

Through the process of updating a global database on catch share programs in fisheries, I highlighted success stories and lessons learned to inform future program design and the way Environmental Defense Fund engages and supports coastal communities with tenure. I wrote externally-facing materials on catch shares and tenure. Through an engagement with Seafood Legacy, a Japanese nonprofit, I created a presentation to inform Japanese policymakers about the major catch share programs in the U.S. and inform implementation of the 2018 national fisheries policy.
